The Academic Citizen is an independent podcast series produced and funded by the South African Research Chair in Science Communication in 2022.
Humusha is a collaboration between VANSA (the Visual Arts Network of South Africa) and the South African Research Chair in Science Communication. Together, we are working to produce a platform where applied artists and scientific researchers can find one another and work together. Visual communication is a key conduit that can bring together not only artists and scientists, but also scientific research with its publics.
This workshop will explore these questions by bringing a small number of writers together with a selected scientist each year. Through a facilitated yet experimental programme of listening, learning, discussing, and intensive writing, participants will be offered the space to focus on producing an original text in response to the provocations of an invited scientist. The invited scientist will be announced one month before the workshop.
