This research examines how young adults in South Africa and Zimbabwe perceive and emotionally respond to short, solution-focused videos that address the human-food-environment connection. By investigating audience reception, interpretation, and feelings of actionability, the project aims to understand how digital environmental media can inspire constructive engagement with sustainability challenges, such as biodiversity loss and the co-creation of a healthy, inclusive food system.
Grounded in reception theory and affect theory, the project explores which narratives and communication strategies enhance understanding, foster hope, and encourage readiness to take action. The ultimate goal is to improve science communication practices that support social and environmental justice.
